Masters of the Veil by Daniel A. Cohen

"Life can’t get much better for Sam Lock. Popular, good-looking, and with a future as a professional football player… every guy at Stanton High School wishes he were Sam. That is, until his championship football game, when Sam accidentally links with an ancient source of energy known as the Veil and reveals his potential to become a powerful sorcerer.

Sam’s dreams are crushed as he is whisked off to Atlas Crown, a community of sorcerers who utilize the Veil as a part of everyday life. Once there, he trains beside a mute boy who speaks through music, an eternal sage who is the eyes and ears of the Veil, and a beautiful girl who's pretty sure Sam's an idiot.

As it becomes clear that Sam is meant for power magic—the most feared and misunderstood form of sorcery—people beyond Atlas Crown learn of his dangerous potential. An exiled group of power sorcerers are eager to recruit Sam, believing that he is destined to help them achieve their long-held goal. If they succeed, they could bring about the downfall of not only Atlas Crown… but all of humankind. "

My review:

First I would like to mention how handsome Mr. Daniel Cohen is...completely off topic, but nonetheless important. Lol Next, I would like to mention that not only did I get to meet him in person, but I was blessed with the luck of getting a signed copy (hence the gloating pictures ;P)
Now to the review of the book:

Daniel Cohen has successfully accomplished creating a new and inventive story that captured my attention to the point of involuntary reflection. I found myself thinking of and analyzing the story that gripped my mind!!! It was well written and immensely relatable. I loved damn near every character, and found myself disappointed when I reached the end of the story. :)
Daniel told me that his intention of creating a character that (contrary to most novels of self realization and mysticism) was happy and popular before finding out he was meant for so much more, was his way of telling this familiar story of worth but through a different source. He completely nailed the character and was true to his word about spinning the tale in a different form. I hated Sam, I loved Sam. I pittied him, and then I showed him no remorse. In other words, he was real. Im glad to have met him, and I eagerly await the next piece of the story. :)

I would indefinitely recommend this book to friends and foes alike!! Daniel is an author to be reckoned with. And I'm not saying that just cuz he's a hottie ;)

The Wizard Heir

#2 In The Heir Series

Summary

Sixteen-year-old Seph McCauley has spent the past three years getting kicked out of one exclusive private school after another. And it's not his attitude that’s the problem. It’s the trail of magical accidents—lately, disasters—that follow in his wake. Seph is a wizard, orphaned and untrained--and his powers are escalating out of control.

After causing a tragic fire at an after-hours party, Seph is sent to the Havens, a secluded boys’ school on the coast of Maine. At first, it seems like the answer to his prayers. Gregory Leicester, the headmaster, promises to train Seph in magic and initiate him into his mysterious order of wizards. But Seph's enthusiasm dampens when he learns that training comes at a steep cost, and that Leicester plans to use his students' powers to serve his own dangerous agenda.

In this companion novel to the exciting fantasy The Warrior Heir, everyone's got a secret to keep: Jason Haley, a fellow student who’s been warned to keep away from Seph; the enchanter Linda Downey, who knew his parents; the rogue wizard Leander Hastings, and the warriors Jack Swift and Ellen Stephenson. This wizard war is one that Seph may not have the strength to survive.

My Review

Cinda Williams Chima is one of my TOP 3 favorite authors!! She knows how to engage the reader from the entrance of the story. Your immediately sucked into both the charm and wonderment of our dashing main character, Seph, and the beautiful fairy tale world she creates to stage this story of love, freedom, and magic.

It stays on your mind when you have to reluctantly put it down, and keeps you looking forward to the next time you enter Seph's journey.

A wonderful prequel to the first novel "The Warrior Heir" and a great addition to the Heir Series.

!!!Don't forget to look for the third novel "The Dragon Heir" and for my upcoming reviews on them :)!!!

Clockwork Prince

#2 In the Infernal Devices Series

Summary

Still mourning the betrayal of her brother, Nate, Tessa is learning how to fit in with her sudden and welcome new family of Shadowhunters. She draws closer and closer to discovering who she is, and more importantly, what she is.

Handsom, troubled Will Herondale finds himself driven mad with his search for the cure to the curse that has plagued him all his life; evenmoreso now that he's fallen head over heels with Tessa.

Tessa too can't help but feel that same magnetic attraction for Will, but because he keeps her at a calculated distance, she finds herself spending her days with Jem, who's charm and pure heart call to her own with such intensity. A fierce, protective love blooms between them and enters Tessa into the most heart wrenching, dramatic, tear-jerking epic love triangle I have EVER read.

Tessa also makes the unfortunate discovery of a mole within the very family she's grown to love so much. Nearly compromising the underlying motive of capturing the evil and patiently sinister Mortmain, who conspires to ultimately rid the world of Nephilim using a breed of half magic/half robot called clockwork demons.

Who is Tessa? What is she? Who will she choose to give her heart? What will become of the Nephilim?

My Review

By far a superb, action packed, twist havin', tear jerkin' book! They even squeezed in a lil love story for Sophie, the coolest, most awesome servant/adopted daughter of the Institute's leaders Henry and Charlotte.

If you've already read the series, you'll love this addition! If you haven't, I suggest catchin' up!! You won't be dissapointed. :)

Kudos to Cassandra Clare on another job well done!
